Juryens begrunnelse:
Stipendet fra Fondet for kunst- og designstudenter som forvaltes av Avdeling Design tildeles en eller to master-avgangsstudenter med avsluttende masterprosjekt av fremragende kvalitet.
I 2021 har juryen valgt å tildele stipendet til to masterstudenter/to masterprosjekter, ett fra fordypning i Klesdesign og kostymedesign og ett fra fordypning i Grafisk design og illustrasjon:
Rintaro IIino, «Black Sheep»
Faglig begrunnelse:
The candidate’s master’s project «Black Sheep» Explores both a psychological and physical state of personal space and self-care as inspiration for the development of collections. «Black Sheep» is a collection that spans between the commercial and the conceptual and manages to transform an introvert theme to a result which is extroverted and inclusive. Drawing on inspiration from the runaway sheep «Shrek» and reflecting on the the hedgehog’s dilemma the projects pinpoints an comments on the human need for both social distancing and intimacy, a dilemma that we all felt during the covid-19 pandemic. The project is highly exploratory both in relation to the theme and craft technique, explores wool as a raw material and manual and digital knitting. The designer demonstrates an in-depth understanding of the process through a visual aesthetic, material and technical reflection and practice that is clearly visible in the end- result. The project has an open approach to different creative genres, such as design, art, interior and space, and has potential for interdisciplinary development and collaboration. The project contributes to expanding the understanding of how the field of clothing design can serve as commentary and reflection on society and humanity. Victoria Ydstie Meyers «Skriftprøver: overføring, bevegelse og variasjon»
Faglig begrunnelse:
Victoria Ydstie Meyers masterprosjekt «Skriftprøver overføring, bevegelse og variasjon» er en reise i skrift. Fra barndommens første bokstaver, via herming, usikkerhet og lek, fram til ferdig trykket typografi. Prosjektet er en imponerende grundig, rik og oppriktig undersøkelse av tekst og form – som bærebjelke i grafisk design og viktig del av livet.
Sensor Sara Kaaman sin vurdering av prosjektet:
«Victoria Ydstie Meyer har genom sitt masterprojekt “Skriftprøver: Bevegelse, overføring og variasjon” initierat och utvecklat ett djupgående, reflekterande och tydligt undersökande arbete på hög nivå. Projektets omfång och djup visar på en väldigt god förmåga att definiera och utveckla ett omfattande projekt som bidrar till att utveckla ämnesområdet. Projektet flätar samman skrivande och typografi och undersöker skrift och skrivande bortom semantik. Victoria angriper temat från flera olika håll – det självbiografiska, poetiska, metodiska, tekniska, estetiska. Projektet har utgått från ett brett intresse för härmande och handskrift, och utmynnat i en bok som samlar självbiografiskt skrivande, analys och form-experiment. Bokens formgivning är kongenial med projektets intention och mål».
